No Classes or Play for Spring Break
Green Grove K9 Center will not offer obedience or agility classes the week of March 18 - 21, due to the staff attending the Collie National Specialty in LaCrosse, Wi.

We will also cancel the PlayCare program on March 18, 19,
20 and 21. Margo and Julie will both be showing collies, so there is no one available for the PlayCare Program.

PlayCare will resume March 25 on our regular schedule.

The Spring Class Session for obedience and agility will
resume on March 31.

Have a wonderful Easter Break and we are hopeful that Spring weather will arrive by the time our new class sessios start!
OUT OF BUSINESS??!???
Going Out of Business?
NOT GREEN GROVE KENNEL!
WE’RE IN IT FOR THE LONG HAUL!

Observant area residents have noticed the “For Sale” sign posted recently at our boarding kennel location at 2211 Frontage Road, Oostburg. And they’re asking if we’re going out of the dog boarding business. Long-time kennel clients are also concerned that their pets might be looking for a new place for overnight stays!

That’s not the case!
We are planning to relocate the kennel facilities on a property more suited to our needs. The Oostburg location – right off I-43 – is an ideal spot for a more commercial enterprise, such as a gas station, mini-mart, etc. (If you know of anyone interested in buying, please give them a heads-up!) Meanwhile, we are considering several nice properties in the area and hope to make a decision in the near future.

During the interim, boarding operations will continue as usual at the Frontage Road location. When we do make the move to a new property, we anticipate doing it quickly with minimal disruption for our loyal clients.

Green Grove Canine’s Future Plans
In addition to a proposed new boarding kennel location, we are also into dog activities big-time at our Green Grove Canine Center at 250 N. Commerce Street, Cedar Grove. We opened there in September, 2006, and offer retail merchandise, grooming services and daily doggie play care as well as a wide choice of afternoon and evening dog training classes.

Please talk to us with any other questions you might have. We appreciate the patronage of our many loyal clients and will look forward to serving the needs of you – and your dog(s) - in the years ahead! Thanks for understanding –

Deer Hunters in Wisconsin State Parks
Many of our clients regularly walk their dogs in nearby Kohler/Terry Andrae and Harrington Beach State Parks.

Be aware that there is both a Bow Hunting and Muzzleloader season in BOTH parks. Expect bow hunters between November 27 and January 27, and black powerder musket hunters between November 11 and December 6.

When walking your dogs, wear bright colors, blaze orange if you have it. Be alert, be obvious, be visible.

You can find a State Park Hunting Season publication on the DNR web site. Warning are posted at most State Park entrances and trail heads. Trails opening on S. 12th Street (Country Trunk V) are posted.
Sugar substitutes dangerous to your dog.
With everyone watching their waistlines and trying to cut back on sugar, a warning comes to keep those sugarless treats out of your dog's reach. Veterinarians are suggesting a commonly used sweetener might cause liver failure in dogs, and perhaps even kill them.

A September report in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association appears to strengthen the suspected link between the sugar substitute xylitol, thought to make dogs sick, and possible liver failure.

Xylitol, a naturally occurring product, is found in many sugar-free chewing gums, candies, baked goods and toothpastes.

Researchers Sharon Gwaltney-Brant and Eric Dunayer with staff at a poison unit of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Urbana, Ill., gathered information on eight dogs treated between 2003 and 2005 after eating products containing xylitol.

Each dog became ill, and five died or had to be put down because of liver failure, possibly from ingesting xylitol.

One dog who had to be euthanized had eaten four large, chocolate-frosted muffins containing about 1 pound of xylitol.

“People don’t think sugar-free gum can kill their dog. I didn’t before I got into this. But this is something people should be aware of,” Gwaltney-Brant, who co-authored the study with Dunayer, said in a statement.
